After you drive into the school parking lot at Hazelgrove School, you will approach the school building where there’s clear signage about where to enter. Once you come inside, a friendly greeter will warmly welcome you, hand you a bulletin that has some basic info about the church in it, and invite you to go a grab a cup of coffee or tea and some cookies in the Lobby.
You might hear some music playing in the background that you might also hear on the radio. You then find a seat in the gym where some people might informally strike up a friendly conversation with you, and when 10:30 am rolls around, the band will start things off by leading everyone in worship. After a couple of songs, all kids ages Nursery to Grade 5 are invited to be dismissed to their respective classrooms down the hall, and parents are asked to accompany them there.
Later on, there will be a sermon taken from the Bible, which might last anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes. After the sermon, everyone is invited to respond to God’s Word by singing a couple more songs, giving of their finances to Jesus by way of the offering time, and all Christians are invited to partake in the Lord’s Supper each Sunday in order to remember and celebrate what Jesus has accomplished for us in His life, death, resurrection, and ascension.
After the service, everyone is dismissed, where they can have another coffee, go get their kids, and chit-chat with anyone who is sticking around. And that’s a basic idea of what a Sunday at Mercy Hill looks like!
